The Origin of Chess : Where did chess come from? The most widely accepted scenario
is that chess appeared in India around 600 A.D., was adopted
in Persia around 700 A.D., and was absorbed by Arab culture
around 800 A.D. Just as chess is a difficult game, its origin
is a difficult puzzle. We may never know the truth of its birth.
The Origin of Modern Chess : Near the end of the 15th century, the game of chess underwent
a dramatic transformation when the powers of two of the weakest
pieces were enhanced. The slow game characterized by a long opening
buildup was suddenly a rapid game where checkmate was possible
after only a few moves. The new game, quickly adopted wherever
it was played, pushed the old game aside after only a few decades.
History of All India Chess Federation
(AICF) : In 1951, foundation was laid for
the AICF with headquaters in Bombay. In 1956, with the efforts
of the then Honorary Secretary, Late V.K. Raman Menon (Bombay),
an Indian Team, was sent to Moscow to participate in the 12th
World Chess Olympiad. In January 1957, with the election of
Mr. M.R. Parameswaran was Honorary Secretary, the headquaters
of the federation was shifted to Madras and Dr.B.V.Keskar, Union
Minister of Information & Broadcasting was elected President
in August 1958, S.K.Narasimhan took over the Secretary-ship
of the Federation and the constitution was finalised, registered
and re-affiliated to the World Chess Body - FIDE. Now state
associations and regional associations were formed in various
states and affiliated to the Federation. |
